Digital SatelliteTV Equipment Insurance

Recently found out that elderly father had been persuaded to buy the above insurance after a number of phone calls. I have contacted the insurance company and explained that the satellite system is mine and not my fathers and that I don't want any insurance from them. They had been calling him during the day whilst I was at work. They say that even though the system is mine and not my fathers, because it's our family home, he can buy insurance to cover the equipment and is not due a full refund! I explained that my father would buy almost anything - he's bought broadband in the past even though he has no computer! I'm not at all happy that he has been persuaded to buy this even though it is not his system. Any advice would be appreciated before I write to the Insurance company.

You could mention in your letter the company that has, in the last few days, been fined millions for mis-selling life assurance or similar to the elderly......0

A life company was fined millions for whole sale miss-selling a product to people where as it can be appropriate for an elderly person to insure their satellite system.
First of all, cancel the policy whilst it is still in its cooling off period - you have a minimum period from the date you receive the documents to do this.
If there is a cancellation fee and/ or charge for time on cover then you will need to decide if it is worth the time and effort to argue it.
You would need to read the policy wording to see if they are correct in that you are insuring the "household" system or if you are insurer your personal box to see if the argument of no insurable interest stacks up or not.
I think a more key thing however is to get yourself on the Telephone Preference Service to stop cold calling in the first place if you're father is becoming a liability.0 -
