hope someone can help
my mum is paying over the odds for a double glazed window, she has payed a deposit of £74.00 to the company, it says on the contract she can cancel the order but will loss the deposit.
i thought you had a cooling off period of 7 days, which isn't up until thursday, so are they just trying it on about lossing the deposit or can they keep the deposit.
thanks

Where did your mum sign the contract? (i.e. home? their place of business? etc etc)If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

she signed at home but on the paperwork it said source of sale was showroom, which is where she went first to make an appointment for the salesman to come out to her0

If she signed in her home, then she is covered under the The Cancellation of Contracts made in a Consumer’s Home or Place of Work etc Regulations 2008) and is entitled to ALL her deposit back, as long as it is cancelled within 7 days.

Did they not give her a cancellation form? If they didn't, you could always report them to Trading Standards as well. They are required by law to give this with the contract when selling away from their place of business...
But yes, write them a letter, send by special delivery and keep the receipt somewhere safe. As long as the letter is sent within the 7 days, it doesn't matter when they recieve it.
And obviously, if they refuse and/or try to keep any of the deposit, let us know
