are you saying that your alarm clock is louder than your neighbours 6 month old i can't believe that you presumably haven't had any problems with their noise , unless their child is the only baby never to have cried during the night , if you haven'theard that then i can't see how your alarm clock could wake them up , unless it plays iron maiden at full blast every morning

I had also thought to recommend the dawn simulators as they gradually light up before your wake up time, many users wake up just with the light so can switch of before any audible alarm sounds. Or else a nature sounds clock so you could wake to birdsong or the sound of water which may not be so disturbing to your neighbour.

I love mine! If I'm especially sleepy, the bird song starts up (very quiet initially, it builds up over 5 minutes), so it's still subtle:

Tell your neighbour to wake you up! If my alarm was any quieter, I'd seriously never hear it. Especially these days when it's still dark in the morning.

I second the dawn simulator. The increasing light wakes me up before the alarm.
  • Vibrating & knocking alarms are ok on paper. My neighbours are hard of hearing & have an alarm that makes a knocking sound. I used to think there was a bird on the roof that I would hear, until I realised it was at the same time, on the hour each day & heard them getting up. It's still a lot better than the alarm clock my brother used to have when I was younger though. When that thing used to go off you'd have to peel yourself off the ceiling after you jumped in shock.

I was about to recommend my Oregon alarm clock (but alas they don't make the type anymore) as that starts off with a quiet beep .... beep ....., slowly gaining in speed & volume until it reaches an almost continuous alarm.
  • Use the radio on a classical music station, low volume. The change in the sound around you will be enough to wake you up, even if it's quiet. You could always set your current alarm clock for 10 minutes later as a back-up just in case.
