Obviously they're not random - they are the best-rated local fitters on checkatrade.com which are based on the recommendations of dozens of people rather than one friend/colleague.
That remains to be seen. Checkatrade is a rather suspect setup as the primary criterion to get listed there should be spelled cheque in stead of check.
Afaik as long as you are willing to pay them hundreds of pounds per year to appear on their website, little else gets verified.
It is similar to Corgi who now sell membership to just about anyone and everyone in the hopes that the public still think they are "the gas people", where in fact they are just a very commercial organisation, and have nothing to do with gas safety.

I think that it is you who does not understand the limitations of combi boilers! The central heating side is not the issue but running a bath can be painfully slow with a combi. The mains water pressure should first be tested to ensure that there is adequate pressure but combis can only heat water at a limited flow rate. I would never replace a system boiler with a combi boiler and I don't think that the advice given was wrong or he thinks that the OP is an idiot.

I regularly fill two baths together for under 10 minutes for each. This can go on endlessly forever if need be. The choice is yours. You need to have adequate mains pressure if not ring up water supplier to fix. under 8 minutes with 25 litre flow rate

I've had our combi boiler for 20 years which does this. The newer ones have the advantage of being over 90%+ efficient as well

25 litres of water under 8 minutes

Well we've had a few more guys round to quote and they all said we wouldn't be able to have a combi because of our water pressure.

Perhaps you should read the whole thread before posting! Should he ignore what he has been told by them and insist on a combi just because you say that it will be fine.

Only to the minimum required. 7 metres of head or about 9 litres per minute at the stop tap. That won't be enough for a combi boiler and cold water supply to a property.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

We only get 4 litres a minute to the kitchen tap so got Thames Water round to have a look and they basically said it's not their problem :(

Emailed them a while ago for more info but haven't heard back yet. Tried phoning them this afternoon but gave up after being put on hold for 30 minutes. Will try again later...

In the meantime, does anyone have any feedback on the two quotes I posted earlier?

    Thanks

    Pete

Exactly and I would never choose a combi over a system boiler myself.

The Worcester Hi-flow 550CDI does advertise 25 l/min(35C rise) from 30kW and their pdf Tech spec confirms this

However WHICH states the top of the range Worcester the 42Cdi is 32kW and produces is 17l/min at 35C rise - 15l/min at 40C rise
