I am presuming you have got the number wrong and it begins 0843 not 0834, in that case there will be the standard connection fee and I think then 5.105p per minute, that is from a BT line.0 -
That number is wrong. Apart from being too long (it's 12 digits and UK numbers are a maximum of 11), 0834 does not exisit as a dial code.
Most tax offices are 0845 numbers (unfortunately) and, from a BT line, calls cost 13.1p call set-up fee plus 2.042p/minute during the day..
Beware, other line providers charge much more - Virgin Media in particular.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
This is the correct number you have dialled
0845 300 0627 So Heinz is correct.
Also 0845 numbers are free on BT calling plans (and on some other providers plans) although to be free at this time of day you would need the Anytime plan.0 -
There's hope!
HMRC have switched on ONE 0345 alternative to one of their plethora of 0845 numbers.

Many, many more to go - but it's a start.
Remember though that, if you're not on an inclusive calls plan or cannot use the override provider 18185, the 0845 version may still be your cheapest route. 03 numbers cost the same to call as 01 or 02 numbers from all fixed lines and on all mobile networks (and using 18185) but, from a BT line, 0845 calls cost 13.1p call set-up fee plus only 2.042p/minute during the day..Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. I've just phoned them using the saynoto0870 app, with me dialling 0845 3000627 and it replacing it with 01355 359022 (which according to HMRC's website is for those outside-UK) and been told quite abruptly by the woman who answered that the number was for international callers only, and she should cut me off. She still dealt with my query, but she wasn't happy about it.0

Try 0151 471 3010 (it's HMRC Bootle) and then tell them you're having trouble getting through to your own office...if you're really lucky, they will put you straight through...naughty but nice! :money:0
