Non Direct Debits payment charge.

Hi There
I have to get this off my chest and see if any one else is fed up with this.
I like to deal in cash, (crap with dd and SO's) but i find it very irritating that i am penalised for paying by cash and NTL want to charge my £5 every month for non direct debit.
I realise it saves you money but not when you are charged when the funds are not clear (LLoyds take 5 working days)
What can i do about? can they do this?
