I'm looking at getting a newish used car and have seen the exact one i like at carcraft, and if i part exchange mine with them i would be paying just a bit more than if i bought it privately. They offer a 3 months guarantee, but other than that is it better buying from them than privately? They will do all the correct checks wont they to make sure the car's safe and legit:confused::confused:

  • Hi.
Like any volume seller, you'll get good and bad cars. Carcraft check the cars themselves and get their mechanics to do the work. If it ain't broken they won't fix it, they'll hope it lasts three months.
With any second hand car of value, it is worth getting a good engineer to look at it. He will save you money by finding any faults the garage want to ignore. Many of these cars could have been ex hire cars and thrashed, you never know. One careful owner, 10 wreckless drivers!
    Good luck with your search.

  • When I looked about a year ago, Carcraft seemed very expensive compared to other places (even compared to main dealers)

Do a search on here- their customer service is disgraceful and their aftersales care doesn't exist. I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.
  • Don't touch with a barge pole!! Major bunch of sharks!

The cars I saw at our local branch were seriously overpriced and looked like they were the dregs from the auction. They'll fleece you over the PX and fleece you many times over with their extortionate and confusing finance deals. These guys are a finance house and don't care less about the cars.

I personally wouldn't trust their checks (get an RAC one), and a 3 month warranty is the legal minimum given with any used car from a dealer.

You'll get a much better deal from one of the more reputable car supermarkets (do a search on this forum) or a good independant car dealer. Best thing to do is see as many of the particular car you like at as many different garages as possible and compare condition/price/service.

My mate got stuffed by them at Sheffield a few years ago, when he went to buy a car for his missus.

He's pretty savvy when it comes to money,as most Yorkshirmen are,but even he was baffled by their sales pitch, and the car he bought, was way overpriced.

Walk away, and spend your hard earned elsewhere.

Boff or no boff, unless he can get under the car and examine everything as good as a computer - you're stuffed!

Like my previous posts, Car Craft tend to keep their costs low by only replacing those parts that you'll def hear or see need replacing. Don't go on a test drive if it rains because you won't be able to hear as much going wrong. If you really want to know what's covered under the 3 months warranty - it covers parts up to £250 and that includes their labour which is extortionate!

I've asked my friend about the warranty and they don't cover any wear and tear on the part. So if you clutch goes - tough, it'll probably wear and tear, gearbox the same! Like I said....not worth the paper it's printed on.

If you want to go see clowns at the circus, forget about paying an entrance fee, just go see Car Craft at work - that's a proper clown operation.
