Being called for jury duty too often, Scotland

Just wondering if anyone has any experience or advice for someone who has been called for an extended jury service last year and is again being asked to do another service.

It is so inconvenient from a work perspective and seems unfair! The questions would be whether it's reasonable to ask to be excused due to the recent service already done, and also if there is some reason why the name has come up so soon?

Thanks

You can reject a jury service summons if you've served on a jury in the last two years.

I thought it was 3 years? Or is that in England?

    Do I have to attend
You might have the right to be excused from jury service, for example, because of your occupation if you are a politician, a doctor, a minister, in the armed forces or have served on a jury in the last five years.

Best bet is to contact the clerk and ask.

It's 2 years in Scotland. There should be a section on the summons where you can put the previous jury service details in and once completed, just send it back and not worry about it for another year :)

I recieved one 3 weeks after my jury service (in Scotland) had ended. I wasn't best pleased considering I'd been on jury service for nearly 3 months, so I contacted the local court and they advised what I've said above.

I've just finished my Jury stint, a woman i spoke to on our first day said she's done it in February but when her name had come out of the hat this time had been told she didn't have to do it unless she wanted to, if it's within 2yrs they give you the option.
Last Thursday they wanted Jurors for a trial that was expected to last about 6wks and we were asked if we wanted to stay, but another on Friday was going to take a few days into this week and without a good excuse Jurors were going to have to be there more than the expected 2wks you normally serve.

Thanks. It can seriously mess with people's lives, self employed can lose clients over it. There is the argument that you deserve to do it for your country, but fair's fair at the end of the day!

Will look at the options and ensure the clerk is aware of the reason being given for excusal.

    Thanks

It would be better if it was more fair.
I known just as many people that have done it more than once, as those who have never done it. You would have thought that in this day & age they'd be able to pick people who had never served before, first.
