1471 Error

My land line phone is a Binatone Caprice 600 answerphone.
Lately, when I dial 1471 to find out who last phoned me, I get a message in a metalic American accent that says:
"There is a phonetic error in the application - goodbye"
What is that all about? How do I fix it?

Who is your line rental with?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

This error appears unique to TalkTalk. Are you on a TalkTalk line?
This can also, it would appear, happen after receiving certain types of sales pitches where the number isn't traceable. Normally you should get "we do not have the caller's number to return the call" when dialling 1471 after receiving those.0 -
Yes, I am with Talk Talk. It could have been one of those calls. I have just called the landline from work, so will have another go at 1471 when I get home and see if the message is different.0

Hi Lucy,
If you tweet us @TalkTalkcare or visit the TalkTalk Members Forum we can look into the details of this issue in more depth.

This is definately due to sales calls from, most likely overseas call centres. We had this but rectified it instantly by ringing our home number from a mobile phone. The 1471 facillity recognised the number.0
