anyone clever know how HB income disregard is worked out?

When I look at my HB calculation it lists my income sources, but then says "LESS income disregard £181".

Just wondered what that figure was about.

I pay childcare £120ish a week. Going to be no longer using the childcare soon so just trying to see what impact that will have on HB and what the rest of the amount was from.

Would be grateful for any clarifications :)

This will be the child care disregard (the £120 you pay will have been disregarded) plus the lone parent disregard (the first £25 of your earnings), the additional earnings disregard (£17.10 for people working over 30 hours or lone parents working over 16 hours) plus the child benefit disregard (child benefit is now disregarded, so that's another £20 if you have one child). Is your childcare actually £118.90pw by any chance?

So, I have worked out that you are a lone parent working over 16 hours and that you have only one child. Are you impressed??!

If you stop paying for childcare, then it will no longer be disregarded, but then you will no longer be paying it, so it will have no impact.
  • Yes it's an average probably is a few pounds and pence off ;)

I didn't know for sure if they disregarded 100% or not (nice of em though). I was just curious about the rest really.

You're right it'll have no impact whatsoever.

    Thanks a lot!
