Please help me guys.
For the past 3 days my pc has become unstable, everytime i switch on the pc it stops loading after the memory check. A message tells me to press cntrl+alt+del as there is a hard disk error.
I tried putting in the windows xp cd to repair but it gives me a blue screen after loading drivers.
I noticed the only way to get into windows is by changing the cmos jumper and then starting the machine. Once i shut down i have to repeat the procedure.
Please advise me if i can fix this problem in anyway?

Hiya, i am referring to the 3 pin socket next to the battery on the motherboard.
pc is very recent, i built it November 2006. abit AB9pro mobo, sata hardrive and intel core 2 duo.0 -
what made you move the cmos jumpers?0

ah right it has clicked,
now by changing the jumpers i think you wil be wiping the BIOS. now becuase u r running a sata hdd, the pc may not be recognising it immeditaly. the bios would be preset to find a ide hdd.
do u have onboard sata connections or a sata pci card?0 -

Hi, i am using the sata connection from hardrive to the sata connector on the mobo.
i havent installed any new drivers for the components, so not sure why all of a sudden this has started to happen.0 -
so if you change the jumper, windows will load fine?0

I have a similar problem that occurs every now and then on my sons pc.
When powered up it will "black screen" with no output at all to the screen, and will not boot up.
A reset of the bios will result in the system booting up without any problems, although a few tweaks to set it up as before are required.
The cmos battery is new, and has been checked with meter at over 3.1v.
Any ideas ?0 -
possible its a loose connection somewhere, maybe graphics card or ram0

Thanks for that, but having built the system myself I have already tried all of the obvious things, though you were not to know that.
Have rebuilt it basically this week after it went "awol" on Tuesday.
May end up getting a new board and starting again.0
