Ebay Feedback System! So annoyed!

Hi guys

I am so annoyed with the ebay feedback system!

I am a regular seller and have sold hundreds of items, my feedback is 100% positive, I sold a game recently and it went all the way to America, I think it must have got bashed on its way there as the buyer says it doesnt work, he left me negative feedback straight away before even contacting me!

I would have offered him a full refund straight away as the game only sold for about a fiver. He has only bought a couple of items so it is really annoying.

Its not fair that silly people like that can upset the feedback score of decent sellers!!!

arrghh! rant over! :)

Hey - I know it's annoying, but it's not the feedback you receive that counts sometimes, it's the way you reply to it. Raise a dispute with ebay asking it to be withdrawn and see what happens.

Ebay doesnt remove feedback just because you dont want a negative comment...
Firstly, the system is a member-to-member system and all comments in the Feedback Forum are based on each member's perception of the trading experience. Members are responsible for their own words.

Secondly, eBay cannot evaluate every feedback for accuracy or fairness. If we began to review and potentially remove feedback comments for these reasons, the removals would be based on our opinion. Because we were not involved in the transaction, we are not able to form an accurate opinion about who is right and who is wrong.

In addition, we cannot remove retaliatory negative feedback for legal reasons. Doing so would mean that eBay would become responsible for, and would have to review, all comments on the site, requiring the review of all comments posted to our site.

I agree, it's not fair when buyers do not contact the seller first over matters like this. :(

I know it sucks when they have left you a neg, but if it were me I would still offer them the refund as it's the 'professional' thing to do. Explain that the item was in working order when it was sent and must have got damaged in the mail.

If they accept the refund, I would then ask them that as the item was damaged in the mail, and therefor not your fault, would they be willing to withdraw their negative feedback. (As they are a newbie, you might have to explain the proceedure).

As an aside, when you say game, do you mean computer game? Could it be that it isn't compatible with US systems (certain console games aren't)? I'm guessing you already know that, but just in case I thought I'd mention it.

Edited to add: If you do refund him, make sure that you put followup feedback to his negative feedback stating that the item was damaged in the post and a full refund has been given. That way, should someone spot your neg, they get a good idea that it wasn't your fault and you handled it professionally. (In other words, you get a positive from a negative ;) )

    Hi, TJ

The first thing you must do is to realise that 100% feedback is not as important as a lot of people seem to think.

It's true you get the occasional moron who says that they'll only deal with people with 100% feedback, but they are the type of people who are likely to give you a hard time over the smallest detail that they're unhappy with, even if it's their own fault, so you may actually benefit from 99.n%.

I know it seems like a big deal when it happens (it hasn't happened to me yet but I know that I'll be a little upset when it does despite what I tell everyone else :)), but in reality any ebay user who's been around for more than five minutes knows perfectly well that you have to be lucky as well as a good seller to maintain 100% feedback into the hundreds.

Try and treat your neg as a battle scar - a badge of honour that shows you've crossed paths with one of the TSFE idiots and survived.
  • give them a negative and see if buyer will accept a mutual withdrawel

Please stop worrying about 100% feedback. If it wasn't this one, there'd be another one along eventually who'd take your 100% status so it was bound to happen at some point. Respond to the feedback left in a factual and calm way and move on.
