    There are loads of companies that will quote for long term income protection. They dont just say oh you fell off a ladder...there you go mate theres £1000 a month.

    Who is to say the OP is going to make a claim 3 months after starting a policy?

    Short term IP (which is what the OP is talking about) will only pay out for 12-24 months - who would be daft enough to potentially lose their job for a 2 year payout especially in the current climate?

    Ignore that last post - complete rubbish!

    I am not going to lose my job for the sake of that, I just want to take it incase.... I would hate to lose my job but know I could not live on JSA again, so best to be safe is it not

    Just a quick note about income Protection. My brother took it out 18 years ago and needed to claim for 15 years. He was paid in the region of £1500 pm TAX FREE. It saved his house and I suspect his marriage. If you have dependents and a mortgage I would say it was an essential
