We're looking at buying a new printer (with wifi and seperate colour cartridges).
Kodak seem to make a big thing about being the cheapest for running costs, but are they?

The internet is very good at venting it's spleen and answering the question to which it knows the answer, rather than the question it was asked.

I believe Kodak do have the cheapest genuine ink costs. But like many I use compatible cartridges with no problems0

Kodak have some post about the build quality
This is a good deal IMO at the moment

PC World have it for £80 at the moment, though check for other prices

Not sure about the extra 10% off as it is for online and the printer is only reserve and collect
These compatibles have 19ml of ink per cartridge, some compatibles have 13ml so take that in to account when comparing prices

Competitive photo paper here if you use that, though check for other prices

Just make sure you get a printer where you can fill the print cartridges up yourself and you cut the cost by 50% normally. I've done it with liquid ink printers and powder printers.0

I agree with the self-fill post above . . .
I have used asda/tesco inks for some years with no problems in canon printers. Just keep re-filling the existing carts. Can be a little messy but it reduces the ink costs down to next to nothing - even compared with compat. carts.
I chose canon because they have easily removable print heads for (occasional) proper cleaning (compared to "endless" self-clean cycles). I haven't found bulk ink to be any different in terms of colour balance or frequency of cleaning. I think the only reason to buy brand cats would be for long-lasting-in-sunshine colour photo prints. I have found compatables fading after a couple of years.

Steer clear of Kodak, someone at work bought an Easyshare 5250. Although you can buy compatibles, the printer claims they are empty when they've still plenty of ink left. They don't have separate cartridges for each colour either. Print quality's o.k. until the paper feed starts playing up which it does frequently.0

Bagalot, HP are rip-offs too. £60 and up to replace the cartridges .
rrf494g, what model is your printer? As far as I can see Cannon use chips too now although I have found a Hong Kong supplier who claims to sell chips that you stick on and they tell the printer they are full again.0 -
It's true, Kodak are cheap for originals but Canon and Epson have really cheap compatible cartridges for only a few pounds each. We get ours at work from Cartridge People and have got on well.0

I always use Epson I dont pay any more than £1.50 for each cartridge usually pay around £1 and have no problems whatsoever with printing0

I've bought an epson one around christmas time last year. I've been using compatible inks so far and no problems.
Compatible inks seem to be fairly cheap too for the epson.0 -
I love my HP Officejet Pro 8500A, I use it loads but never seem to have to change the ink, it's a brilliant machine, does absolutely everything, try:
