Aviva- Car Insurance Claim

Hi,

I had a car accident over the weekend which wasn't my fault. I have reported it to Aviva but I want to use my own choice of repairer and there is a £200.00 excess to do that. Does anyone know whether this be claimed off the third party? as I won't be paying an excess anyway as it was the third parties fault.

Any help will be much appreciated!

If you have your car repaired by way of a claim off your own insurer, then you pay all your excess irrespective of who is at fault. Your excesses are "unisured losses"

Then you pursue the third party for all your uninsured losses.

You can avoid all this if there is no dispute over liability by not claiming off your own insurer, but making your claim directly off the third party.

Why not ask the other party for their insurance details to approach them directly?
If the other driver admits liability their insurer will probably fall over themselves to offer you a repair and a hire car (If I were you, I would use your own choice of repairer), because it's much cheaper for them to do it directly than if you go to a credit hire company.
Then you just need to tell your insurer that you will not be making a claim on your own policy.
