Conservatory quote

Have had a couple of quotes for a conservatory, the size would be 3.5 x 3.5, one wall would be brick, the others 60cm dwarf walls with door.
One company that is a member of the DGCOS has quoted £9500 incl, planitherm glass, 35mm openheat guard polycarb roof, they have said (when asked) that cavity trays are not necessary and not the norm
other company have quoted £15,000(!) for the same measurements, with 25mm polycarb roof with cavity trays-told me completely necessary.
It rains a lot where i live -I have no experience of cavity trays/conservatories and wondered if anyone had any advice/words of wisdom, have had fingers burnt before with double glazing companies so am extra cautious! (having said that I did pay for purchase on credit card therefore getting comeback as I had huge problems with the company - leading to work being failed by FENSA)
Thank you in advance

Hi there
Well I did when I got my conservatory around eight years ago but it only added £1000 to the cost so I assume you could ask the first company to quote you for the cavity trays and see how much they charge.
The company I purchase from gave me the choice. They said at the time that sometimes the water can travel down into the lintels and come into the conservatory that way. Doesn't always happen but I think south-facing conservatories are more prone to it than sheltered north-facing ones. Hope this helps.0 -
The norm is that you will need cavity trays if you are removing the physical barrier (ie doors) between the house and the conservatory. If you aren't cavity trays shouldnt be needed. In reality in the vast majority of cases they are a total waste of time. If I were you Id be spending the money on some decent glass in the roof. Polycarbonate always looks poor after a few years and its horrendously noisy when it rains. Pilkinton activ blue used to be about the best, not sure if things have changed recently though.0
