Argos woes, made me so angry!!!

Hi folks my first post here and hope its in the right section.

Seen a great deal on their website, 51 inch 3d tv blu ray player and megamind dvd for the nice sum of £589. I thought great will get a store card pay it off within the year no problems, so there will be no interest to pay. When I applied for the card it gave me the option of purchashing something today via the store card so I selected yes, gave the order number etc. Got to the payment stage selected the argos card, selected the 12 month buy now pay later at this point it would not let me continue untill i put in my bank card deatail (never entered them at first, as I thought this very situation would arise). So then entered them the second time, thinking they would need the card for credit checks etc. So bobs your uncle got a nice tv for the family.

Couple of hours went bye and i thought it was weird that I never got a mention of the card terms and conditions via email, checked my bank and the whole £600 had been taken out my account sending me overdrawn by £200. So phoned them up they cancelled the order, which was nice of them eh, another weird thing was that they had none in stock. But the horrible woman was trying to convince me that i hadnt to put my card details in when applying. I told her it wasnt possible to continue without soing so. There was nothing they can do if i can get bank charges etc. These people that take the calls must have no soul. they can take my money in a split second but it takes 5 days for the money to get back into my account, even though it was their mistake. Someone tell me how that is fair? My bank (santander) had been very helpful in putting up my overdraft limit untill the cash is refunded so I dont get any bank charges. So would warn against anyone dealing with these argos cowboys.

Thoughts???

  • I've just gone through the whole process with made up details - it only asked for my bank account number and sort code, not the information they would need to take full payment. Did you actually get to the screen where they confirmed that you had been accepted for the credit account?

Is there any possibility you followed the incorrect steps?

I just tried it myself and never at any point does it ask for card details when selecting the buy now pay 12 months option.

You need to go through to the trolley, then select "apply for credit" (not BUY or RESERVE). Then once you have selected that, you select credit plan, enter your personal details, enter your employment details, enter your bank account number then you're done.

  • I went through the section of applying for store card first, they asked if i wanted to purchase items on theis card. then entering the item number. I was under the impression you apply tell them the item(s) you want then they get back to you. didnt see that part where it tells me no?!

WOW that sounds like a more reasonable route. But i did select the option of paying via argos card and selecting the 12 month so either way it shouldnt have came out my account.

You'd have got an acceptance screen, or a decline screen, or a 'this needs to be manually reviewed' screen.

It sounds like it was declined or was referred, and you opted to pay by bank details instead, by accident.

If you were making the purchase on the card, it wouldn't need your bank details. You'd already given them for the card.

I didn't find the process too confusing but you do need to read all the information, some of the screens look very standard but actually have vital information on them.

Do you have an acceptance email stating your credit limit?

Then on the payment screen you need to choose "argos card" as your payment method (from the drop down menu of which type of card you're paying by), fill in teh argos card number then click "choose credit plan".

So you did select argos card? So how did they get your other card details?

Long story short, unless you can prove the process was faulty, you may have a hard time getting argos to give anything as a goodwill gesture. However, if you're never normally in the red, you could always explain to your bank and see if they will remove the charges as a one off :)

  • Ive done the whole process now and i can assure you that option "apply for credit" was not there, I looked everywhere as ,again, I thought situation would arise. Didnt want to select the "buy" button next to the home delivery only part but was my only option. Last night when i tried and they were in stock i was trying this but the website kept hanging. I think their website gets edited so if an item is going for a good price i think they want cash only. Could be wrong, but doubt it.

Looks like your application was declined or referred and you were then given the option to pay with a debit/credit card.
