Formating hard drive

After some advice i used a program to copy over my hard drive 7 times is it worth formating after ive done this also is there way to format the hard drive without a windows disk ?

either install it as a 2nd drive in a spare PC and do it from explorer or you should be able to do type format c:\ at the command prompt
I thought it was closer to 17 times overwriting to ensure all data was destroyed. May I have been watching to much American TV. Once overwriting I'm not sure it's worth formatting it, but can't hurt if you've got the time.0 -

You could theoretically use something like the GParted LiveCD to partition and format a hard disk drive, but since almost all operating system installers do this sort of thing for you there's no real need.0 -
