Hermes Delivery is so bad!!

Ok so i made an order through ASOS and they delivered it via Hermes.
I dont leave safe drop off points (if i'm not in to receive the parcel) because I don't live in exactly the safest area. But the delivery man decided to take his own initiative and put the package behind the wheelie bin next to my front door......
So quite obviously I didn't have high hopes when I went to look for the package.
And surprise surprise there was no package, I can only imagine a nosy neighbour or a passer-by saw what he was doing and thought they would help themselves.
I've contacted ASOS and told them about this but should i contact Hermes also?
Where do I stand on this? Am I entitled to a refund or anything?
