Upgrading radiator in one room

Hi everyone,

I've been looking for quotes from local plumbers to upgrade the single-sided small 800mm x 600mm radiator in the main bedroom (big room) to a 1400mm x 600mm double-sided radiator (3x the output in heat).

The quote I've received so far is £350, that's for the new radiator and thermostatic valve, draining the system, changing the pipework to suit and refilling the system (inc corrosion inhibiter) and testing.

Is that a reasonable quote? Labour is shown as £170, with the radiator priced at £138.

Cheers

That seems quite steep. We paid £600 to replace 5 with all the above work. My Grandad paid £200 for one to be replaced. Check on Screwfix how much the radiator costs and remember the plumber will probably get a bit of cash for the scrap value of the old one.

I've spoken with the plumber and he actually mentioned ordering it online myself if I wanted to as its often cheaper. I've ordered a radiator and valve set for £73 delivered, so that's saved around £80 on the price he had quoted with new valves. :)

We're down in the South East so not so cheap unfortunately! £600 is very good...

    plumbers are expensive anywhere.
    esp in the south east.

i know someone who paid 250 quid just to have a rad moved, about 4/5 feet.
two plumbers turned up, and did the job in approx 1 hr.
    they used plastic pipe too!
    Get some gorm.
