Free anti vius alternative to AVG

AVG was making my PC run super slow. Now I have installed Avast instead and it works like a charm.

Avast is avaiable free for home use just like AVG. Avast is very low resource intensive- doesn't use much performance power.

I use Avira which isnt too bad. I'm getting fed up with some of the advertising popups asking to upgrade so I might try Avast.

Avast is better than mse in my opinion. Have tried both, and avast is very light, and detected what mse failed to. They're both good though.

I had a lot of trouble with AVG. It wasnt always updating automatically and a lot of trojans got through

Since I switched to Avast a couple of months ago I've had no problems

Each time I boot up my computer a voice comes without fail saying my antivirus has been updated

Get it from www.filehippo.com to save yourself the runaround that you get on the main site that tries to sell you the paid version

There's no need to pay for the paid version unless you like extra bells and whistles

I always used AVG, but it agree with woodbine. Security Essentials is the way at the moment!

    Thanks for the tip OP!

My computer has been freezing loads lately, so I replaced Kaspersky with Avast and so far, after two days, it's running perfectly:)

I keep reading that AVG is yesterdays news. Also I believe Avira beats Avast in detection.
Here is a comparison of the 3 programmes.

Is the Avast control the one that looks like some sort of glorified getto blaster? If so, I think I may have got rid of it on those grounds alone!
I can't remember how I did it but I turned those pop up reminders off. In any case a small price to pay for the standard of protection.

This is totally correct and, for Windows 7 users at least, MSE is coming out at the top of AV providers for finding known viruses.

Threatfire free version behavioural heuristics scanner is a useful addition to any AV suite (it runs alongside any of them as its not a traditional AV scanner) and it has caught things (especially good for zero day attacks) my AV has missed over the years I've been using it.
