Interesting sales approach

I used to buy power from PowerGen and regularly received correspondence from Scottish Power implying that I had an account with SP but had forgotten to advise some minor admin details. The intent was presumably to persuade the unwary into changing supplier, whilst maintaining a plausible excuse of "admin error". The whole wording is superbly clever - convincing and no doubt proof against any challenge.

A year ago, I swapped away from PowerGen and ever since have been getting similar from PG. Today PG gave me an 0800 number to ring to "correct my account details" so at PG expense, I did just that - phoned them. PG flatly denied they had sent me a letter as it would be "on their system" which showed the last letter was Aug 04.

It is a pleasure to deal with these companies.

must hav shares in horlicks

the thing is though - they get their commission from the sale regardless of whether you complain or not at a later date

the commission is too good for them not to try it on
and the penalties for mis-selling dont bother them

if they end up getting the sack - they just shrug their shoulders and move on to the next company
