dont know when this was announced or even if it was but ive just received a letter telling me the hours for WTC are changing.
to qualify couples with children must work 24 hrs per week between them with 1 working at least 16 hrs per week.
more cuts to the poor.

So does that mean that a couple will lose their WTC if one of the couple works but the other doesn't?Sealed Pot Challenge #817 £50 banked

This has been discussed in the appropriate forum and 80% of those voted were happy with this change to tax credits.

After all, a couple has the potential to work 10 days in total for both individuals across the week on a full time basis. This change merely asks a couple to step up from working 2 days to 3 days in total, a mere third of their potential capacity for full time employment. Hardly a killer, is it?0 -
I agree. I was asking so I was clear on what it meant. It won't make any difference to me as we dont claim tax credits.Sealed Pot Challenge #817 £50 banked

No, as long as the other one works for 24 hours. At least one of the couple has to work 16 hours so it's up to them to figure out if one or the other will do the remaining 8 hours.0 -
I cant see many of these poorly paying employers being happy with this. They wont find many people willing to sign a 16 hour contract for an unliveable wage if there are no tax credits to subsidise the employers crap pay, because lets face it,that was the reason they were brought in in the first place.0

Yeah, that's right, cos people earning £19 an hour on a 16 hour week get WTC now, and people earning £48 an hour on a 16 hour week can get CTC now.
Yeah, tax credits really do subsidise crap pay. I'm glad I don't earn a piddly £48 an hour, it's only £92,000 full time equivalent. A disgrace that there are employers who pay less:mad:0 -

24 hours isnt even full time for one person, how is it a cut to the poor?Birthdays are good for you. Statistics show that the people who have the most live the longest.
