1 year guarantee just expired so sold me years warranty

My washing machine has developed a fault and the guarantee just run out 30 th Nov.

I spoke to Hotpoint and he was keen to sell me a plan at 6.50 a month for 10 months which covers the year and call out this week.

I did ask him if I could think about it but he said no this offer of half price would only be available to take there and then.

I always get suspicious when they dont let you have time to think. Has anyone had this happen?wondering if I had more consumer rights then was let on.
If you find something irritating in my post or that you disagree with, then please don't jump on me ,just please ignore my post.I have come to the site for useful information and not to argue. thanks.

Check this out, it might help you. Basically, a washing machine should last longer than a year, and therefore you have to look at the Sale of Goods Act which changed earlier this year.

Write them a letter asking for them to inspect and remedy the situation. If they refuse get an independant report to confirm the fault is inherent -- then send this to them and they will (should) refund the cost of the report and now offer a remedy.

Them = the retailer, not the manufacturer

Your statutory rights are with the retailer. The warranty is in addition to this & is something provided by the manufacturer directly, you do NOT need to pay for a warranty.

Hmm, dodgy. You're not particularly well covered by the DSR when buying services over the phone. If you agree to the service starting straight away you effectively waive your entitlement to a cooling-off period.

Never be persuaded to buy something over the phone by high-pressured selling tactics, of which this is a prime example (buy now or lose the discount!).

Furthermore, most warranties are a waste of money anyway. You're protected by the SOGA and a washing machine should last longer than a year - you shouldn't need this warranty. Tell Hotpoint to do a hike.

I don't know how it works over the phone, but certainly in-store, for support agreements/extended warranties over £20 (which I presume this would be, £65 broken down into 10 payments), you are required by law to give a written quotation, which must be valid for 30 days.
