Holiday for 7 - poss camping?

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me?
I have been put in charge of organising a holiday for 4 adults, one child aged 12/13 (depending on date of travel!) and two babies aged 1 and 2.
The original idea was to go camping in the south of france, go by car and ferry/tunnel and stay in a caravan/tent. however, when I price up the cost of this with Siblu or Eurocamp it's still quite expensive and I wonder if we couldn't get apartment/hotel cheaper or the same price with food thrown in?
Were' looking at the South of France, cote d'azur or nearby or maybe biarritz? We don't really mind so long as there's a swimming pool for the kids and a bit to do on-site or nearby.
driving/sailing/flying (were based i the north west and midlands) - doesn't really matter - can anyone help?
Leaving between 30th July and 20th August....
