Every death on UK roads mapped

I'm not sure if this has been talked about or if it's a new thing, but I've only just seen it. It's a bit "morbid curiousity", but type in your postcode and it'll show you where people have died since 2002 and it gives you an idea of the blackspots in the area.

The map seems accurate. A lot of the accidents in my area, I remember, and they happened where shown on the map. One was a suicide and it is still shown.

was gonna say it doesnt have recent (1-2 months) but then realised its to 2010. Unfortunately if your male, 37, and riding a motorbike near my area, youre going to die! Quite a few busses running people over aswell, doesnt seem to be many car deaths till you get on the motorway.

It is missing the one my friend died in, for some reason... hers was a single-vehicle suicide crash and I know the exact spot. So maybe there are others missing too...

  • Although 36,000 seems a lot.. when you take into consideration the amount of cars on the road and miles covered in those 11 years... it's barely anything compared to what we've been led to believe when they try to tell us that they're not big grey and yellow money boxes.

Most around my area seem to involve OAP drivers, OAP pedestrians or teenage pedestrians (at night) and hardly any have occurred where the ridiculous "traffic calming measures" have been put in place.

It wouldn't be the first time someone "bent" the stats to suite an agenda.

Quite interesting to see how many accidents on the motorway near me involve only one car.
  • How incredibly sad!

Each one of those dots represents a life and family torn apart by a tragedy.

It reminds me of a fridge magnet which says " Don't worry about getting old - it is a privilege denied to many".

I'm not normally sensitive ( I'm 44, 15st and used to play rugby) but the article made me stop and ponder a while that whilst we all go about trying to save some pennies here and there, in the end it could all be wiped out by an error of judgement!

Scary when you think of it!

There are definitely stats missing. Round my way it only appears to record teenagers and OAPs who have died.

    Absolutely :T

I'm 28 and have twice narrowly escaped from serious motorway accidents (the first was a tyre blow-out at 70mph, the other a pile-up late at night). My parents are desperately worried about my plans to travel the world, but it doesn't seem it can be much more risky than a daily commute! And it's that much more important to do the things you dream about while you still can.

Apparently there were no RTA fatalities within nearly a 5 mile radius of Rochdale within that time.
I could live in hope that this is the case, but some how don't think it is true......
