Paying extra for 'Secured by Design' on Rehau windows

We're in the process of ordering replacement double glazing and have done a bit of shopping around. Most of the companies' quotes for Rehau 70mm windows are around the same price but there's quite a variation in what we have been quoted to add security fittings to the windows so that they achieve 'Secured by Design' certification. I believe it means adding a third espagnolette lock to each opening and small shootbolts to the window corners.

We've been quoted anything from £12 to £35 per opening for the extras (which would add up to £400 onto our total bill).

Can anyone tell me what is a reasonable amount to pay for 'Secured by Design' per opening?

its just a marketing ploy to get more money out of you.
trading on your fears about crime.
an extra lock or two more shoot bolts, doesnt stop a brick.
    Get some gorm.

    Hello

The cost has a number of different factors which may be specific to each fabricator.

For a window to qualify for Secured by Design it must hold BS7950 certification (specification for enhanced security of casement and tilt & turn windows for domestic applications) and the chosen fabricator must also hold BS7412 (specification for plastic windows made from PVC-U extruded hollow profiles).

Variation in cost may come from different hardware setups and window styles tested, not each fabricator will specify the same specification to meet the performance requirement to achieve the BS7950.

Hope that helps to clarify what Secured by Design is, you can also search for a REHAU Authorised Partner in your area using the postcode search on our REHAU Home site.
