Nice towns/shopping centres ideas

Hi

Ive got day off work on Wednesday and want to use it for Christmas shopping. Live in North Wales and looking for somewhere within say a 70 mile radius.

I'm looking for somewhere similar to Chester or Shrewsbury. Obviously have already been to these and Knutsford, Nantwich, Northwich, Manchester, Liverpool, Cheshire Oaks, Mold, Oswestry, Telford, Sheffield, Derby, Stoke on Trent - I seem to be running out of new places.

I liked Knutsford as it was mainly independent shops and had a nice feel to the town.

Was wondering what Macclesfield was like or if Alderley Edge has a main shopping area? Also Bridgnorth? Just wanted a couple of hours out with somewhere that's not mainly empty/boarded up shops as a lot of places are now. Preferably a few independents and nice cafes too - thanks for any ideas.

Bridgnorth is very nice, doesn't have any large chains such as M & S but plenty of independent shops and nice gift shops. Also a pretty town to walk around if you have the time.
  • thank you both, just off to google a bit more infox
  • I've also recommend Bridgnorth - it's a great place.
  • Thanks trueflower, just looked at Ludlow and Bridgnorth - they are exactly the type of towns I wanted.

Might even be able to get to both as only 19 miles apart.
Also there is a Christmas market there on Wednesdays during December x

You really put into perspective in this post what I keep trying to tell my friends; the UK has so many fascinating places to explore. Who needs to go abroad eh? Within just a 70 mile radius you mention a few lovely towns, yet how many of us can even claim to know anything about these towns or even experienced their many delights? Trying to dissuade my friends from going abroad this Christmas is like talking to a brick wall for they will one day die without experiencing the true worth of what this country's rich history and heritage has to offer. Fancy knowing more about Ibiza than your own country. Terrible. :rotfl: Rant over :o

    Hi

There are some decent places within North Wales. Llandudno has a decent selection of High Street stores and Bangor isn't that bad a shopping centre these days, although some of the better shops are spread out along Caernarfon Road so you'll need to keep hopping back into the car.

There are also some nice little towns with more independent retailers such as Conwy, Betws-y-Coed and Pwllheli (although it can be quite a trek getting to Pwllheli).

On the other hand avoid Rhyl at all costs!
The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water
And I look like a tramp and tramps like us
Baby we were born to walk
  • York?

    Lincoln?

Geography is crap so excuse my suggestions if they are too far out.
  • York is definetly worth the trip.

I live in Leeds, which has a vibrant and diverse city centre itself as far as shopping is concerned, but I still prefer shopping in York.
