I see lots of threads from people living in London who struggle to buy or rent. They are probably on above average income due to being in London, but I wondered if it was all worth it? If property prices/rents in London are so high why not think about elsewhere, after all the increased property price is usually matched with the wage so is there much to lose with moving away to more sensible areas/prices??
Has anyone thrown in the towel and found happiness elsewhere, or does London have too strong a hold on you?

If everyone who was currently working in London and struggling by on an average salary left tomorrow to go and live where house prices were cheaper, what do you think would happen to those areas and why do you think they are cheaper?0

I love London and I loved living there but it's too hard to raise kids there.0 -
I used to live in London and miss it terribly but I realise if I move back I will have to rent (I have my own home).
It may be cheaper but it sure is miserable. Up North, one man's version of friendly banter is noseyness to me. I miss the mix of cultures, the different attitude, the buzz and the choice when it comes to looking for work and above all the public transport.

I've lived in London my whole life and I love it. I can't imagine living anywhere else but who knows maybe one day I'll give it a try but I'll sure miss it..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

In london salaries are higher so prices are higher.
Outside London salaries are lower so prices are lower.
You can't just move to barrow and earn the same salary. So moving doesn't really solve anything.
Plus, I would take a 50% pay cut if I left London, I doubt my total costs would also halve.0 -
I like parts of west london, parsons green type area. However the nicer parts of london are expensive, and I think the air quality and crowdedness mean there's parts I'd prefer not live in (comments from someone who grew up in london).I see lots of threads from people living in London who struggle to buy or rent. I want to move out of London but nothing in the South East is really affordable any more than what I have now. Even if I move right to the coast everything is still way over 3 x my London salary (which isn't that much) and as the salary would drop further still on a low wage to start with it would just get worse. I wouldn't move any further away than that due to family so would never consider going North so not sure what I could do.
I HATE London and all the gangs, chavs, crime and rude people though0 -
I've worked in, and visited London a few times. Every time I`ve done that, i`ve been glad to leave the place. I can't say that for most other places in the UK that I`ve visited.30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Equity : Don't know, don't care much. Savings : That's asking for ridicule.0

You get gangs and chavs everywhere. Northerners can also be very rude and intrusive. Actually, you can get Northern areas with loads of chavs because of the lack of available work/work ethic."fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts."
