Talk talk & moving house

I hope someone can give me some advice.
Situation - Have broadband & phone with TT but am out of contract, i was going to change provider but knew i'd be moving house so have left it.
Have now exchanged on the sale of our house & have a week before completion. The house i hope to buy is taking longer & i won't be moving in for about 6 weeks. Am staying with a friend in between.
I've just called TT to cancel my services & was asked who was moving in & who they would be using for their phone? I said i didn't know. She then said that if i cancel without the new owner switching over to my line there would be no line & they would need to pay £130.
Is this right - it seems a lot & i don't want to saddle them with that if i can help it - they may not have a line to transfer, but how am i supposed to know?
Also, when i do finally move will I have to pay £130 for a new line if the previous owner has transfered or cancelled hers?
Any help greatfully received.

Possibly, it depends who you go with. Shop around all the deals as some are not that bad. I went with Sky who gave me £90 discount from a £100 charge, so only paid £10.
Also consider a cashback site so you can get a few bob for the service to further reduce the bill, or offset the contract costs.
I fear you will have to forget about the old house as this is no longer your concern. They will only be in the same situation as you are with your new house.0 -
Probably a bit late but I think you'll find they auto-renewed your contract and the £130 charge is for breaking your contract, unless you confirm you'll take your service with you.
I got stung this way by TT when I moved. About 7 months before the move, TT had rung me up to ask if I wanted to transfer to a more expensive deal with them. I declined, and they treated this as confirming a renewal. Wouldn't budge at all on the cancellation fee until they stuffed up with the BB during the move and could no longer honour the contract (offered me much poorer package at more money).0
