Buying and selling stairlifts - Handicare

In February 2011, my 88 year old Mother who has dementia bought an Age UK Handicare stairlift (without consulting me) and was charged £2450. She has no idea of the meaning of money. The machine kept breaking down and she lost confidence in it to the extent we have had to move her away to sheltered accommodation.
We no longer need the stairlift and Handicare has offered to buy it back for £100. This seems very bad practice to me.

it does seem as though a lot of mobilty type companies employ ex DG salesmen.
sell your stairlift on ebay. you should get a better price.
i doubt you will get more than 500 quid though.Get some gorm.0 -
Was the lift new or reconditioned when it was installed? Is it a curved or straight stairlift?
These factors will influence the amount they offer back for it. If it was new when it went in then if you try again they might offer a bit more for it or you might be able to find a local independent stairlift company that might offer you something for it.0 -
My Mum had bought her stairlift from Acorn and we understood they would buy it back if the situation arose, after she died they gave us some postcards and sais we should put them into local shop windows.
I think Ormus has it spot on ...... double glazing; kitchens; mobility equipment, there's no differenceLiverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

The house we moved to had a stannah stairlift, barely used. Had all the documents with it. Rang the company, they offered to take it out for a £100!
You can take out self, we did. Although heavier and harder than it looked!
Sold it on Stairlift trader website to a dealer. Didn't make much as just wanted it gone (about £80) prob could have got a bit more, but had read somewhere about someone who installed one wrong (a left one on the right side or vice versa) and because of this the emergency stop didn't work and a toddler was squashed. So I didn't want to sell to a dIYerMorgage till Nov 30 GOAL MFW Sept 2016Aug 11 - £100k Aug 2016.... It's GONE!!!!!
