Car accident settle outsidr insurance robbery

Just over a month ago I had a small accident in my car where by it lurched forward at a junction and hit a biker. There was what seemed to be minor damage to his BMW bike and we swapped details. He then text me and asked how I wished to settle (with or without insurance) The total for parts was £498.10 and my insurance premium would rise slightly more so i (stupidly) said I would settle outside and I sent him a cheque for that amount in return for an invoice. He has since said he has posted and emailed invoiced (which I've never received) and now ceased all communication.
What is my legal standing? From what I can see I simply don't have any. I wish to re coop my £500 or demand to see he has paid for the goods as agreed.

I guess if you wanted evidence of costs of the damage you should have asked for it before sending the cheque.
By sending the cheque I’d say that you’d accepted that the costs were reasonable and frankly it’s up to the biker whether he gets the bike repaired or keeps the money and rides round on a damaged bike.0 -
Did you inform your insurance of the accident, if not, you should have. Its in your terms and conditions yu have to inform them whether you are claiming or not.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

What does it matter if he has repaired the bike or not. If he hasn't it'll be compensation for the fact it's worth less when he come to sell it.0

In that case I would just consider it a fair settlement and move on. There is no legal obligation to carry out repairs, you can have what's called a cash in lieu of repairs settlement.0 -
dont forget to inform your insurance company about the incident, if you dont and they find out (cyclist deciding that he wants compensation for injuries maybe) then you can be in trouble.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0
