Warranty query

I have an 09 plate chevrolet matiz which I got when it was a year old. On two occasions now the battery lamp has illuminated on the dash board whilst I have been driving the car. It flicked on for about 10 secs then off again, simultaneously the handbrake warning light did the same. On a search of the net this can indicate a faulty alternator and my query is would that be covered under the cars 3 year warranty? I have checked the warranty book but its not very clear what is and is'nt covered.
If it isn't would I then have a case under sale of goods act for getting it replaced as am pretty sure 2 years old and 21000 miles isn't lasting for a reasonable time.
Any help appreciated. Car goes into garage Tuesday.

First step is the get the dealer to interrogate the ECU to see if any fault codes have been stored.

If two lights are coming on it could be a poor connection/earth somewhere rather than a faulty alternator. Also if it doesn't do it at the garage and there are no codes, and the battery is charging OK, then you will probably have to wait and see how the fault develops i.e. it probably will need to get worse before the fault can be traced.
