Washing problem..

  • Try using soapnuts end a few drops of lavender essential oil. (try putting soapnuts into google and see all the links). They're much more environmentally friendly and for me it worked out about the same price as powder used to be. You can just what ever oil you like to add and so you get to change your smell according to your mood on the day. I have to use a spot stain remover on things like chocolate, felt tip pen, etc (3 boys aged 2-5!) but otherwise they work very well. I use a bit of percarbonate of soda from time to time to brighten up any white and I use a bit of bicarbonate of soda with my coloured things.

Clothes that have that very stong 'soap powder' smell which you can pick up on a mile away have usually been washed at 50 degrees or higher and with a biological powder or liquid. Colour powders and non-bios just don't smell as strong. I used to buy Fairy powder but it never smelled of anything so I reverted back to Arial bio and a colour one for dark stuff.
I discovered after asking people whose clothes smelled fab what they use that Daz bio and Bold bio are the 2 strongest ones

I have always had the same problem and my mother before me! I'm really jealous whenever I get that waft of lovely freshness from someone else. I thought using tumble dryer would help but it hasn't. No matter what I use it just smells of nothing.

    Watching with intrest......

I have this too.. and interestingly.. my washing machine is currently broken so I took a couple of loads to my mums.. the whites came up much better than when I do them and everything smells gorgeous  She uses the same soap/softener etc as me so why can this be? Also my machine is newer than hers and it's really annoying!!!!

    I am the washing powder queen!!:T :T :T

I wander round all the supermarkets sniffing all the powders, liquids and softners and this is my verdict.......

Daz and the yellow Lenor is strong smelling (concerntrated lenor)

Blue Bold is also fairly strong but the liquid is even stronger!!

I always have people asking me what washing powder I use especially when I use daz and yellow lenor:T :T

I wear clothing only once too, it's silly I know but I love the smell of fresh washing.

try it you will love it:T

I cannot, for the life of me, get my washing to smell nice.

I wash everything reguarly (most items only worn once), I use plenty washing powder, fabric conditioner etc..but my washing just never smells nice(it doesn't smell awful, but just not extra fesh and clean).

The other day I was in at work helping hubby and the bloke he works with, well you could smell the fresh cleanness of his clothes a mile away - it was really, really gorgeous.

What am I doing wrong that I can't achieve that?

I even sometimes wash my towels after only one use (which creates a lot of washing in a family of 4) because I am paranoid about it.

Check its not your machine thats smelly, If it is Put a packet of baking soda in the machine and do an empty wash. should freshen it up

Is the pipe that pumps water out of your machine at a higher level than the pipe that lets water out of your sink? IYKWIM (a bit difficult to explain)

I only say this as when I had my new machine put in. The guy that did it told me that if they were at the same level then the water you let out of the sink i.e washing up water etc can also drain into the washing machine waste pipe, which does cause the washing machine to smell.

I've never had a problem and my washing always comes out smelling nice. Even if I've forgotten and left it in the machine for a day.

I use Asda's own washing liquid and fabric softner BTW.

Bold lavender and chamomile smells amazing but is dear. I use tesco lavender 2 in 1 instead. Washing smells lovely but tumble dryng it reduces the smell but I refuse to buy tumble drier sheets.
