Pop music CD suitable for an 8 year old?

Mine like both Pop Party and Now CDs, but the Pop Party ones don't tend to have so many fillers on.
My daughters used to love the Pop Princesses CDs. We had a hire car for some reason one weekend, and the girls had their CD on in the car.It was only when the car had gone back I realised we'd left the CD in it. Sadly I didn't get to hear the conversation my husband had with the car hire company - i'd have paid money to hear him asking for his Pop Princesses back!! (they did post it to us though!)0 -
As a parent you surely must know what's acceptable listening for an 8 year old child. ....I was going to say more....do I really need to??
Just because someone knows what is acceptable listening for an eight year old doesn't mean they have an in depth knowledge of all the songs in the charts.0 -
Buying pop music for that age is a nightmare my daughter is 7 and loves pop songs. I got her Now for Christmas but she's had Pop Princesses before which does seem to be aimed at a younger age0

Try looking at some of the groups around these days, the ones that are aimed more at the younger generation like the Saturdays (if there still arround) and what about Justin Beiber (excuse spelling) or JlS
Any group like JLS that has a range of bed sets (pillows duvet cover) out with there groups name on, should be ok for kids lol
Usually if an album is going to have bad words in it, there should be a warning on the front of the album, also as much as I hate the prices of places like HMV etc, the assistants in there can be quite good at coming up with suggestions. Not always but with the more current stuff they are not to bad (if you get the right member of staff)
Know you are probably looking for ideas for albums with loads of artists on but hope that helpsMatthew, Izzy, Suzie, Harry, Darwin. My husband my cats, the main things that matter in my life...0 -
I had to post to say that I find your comment rude and unhelpful. If you had bothered to read the whole thread, the OP had stated they were asked to buy a CD by their nieces parents. How would this make them a parent themselves??? It is replies like this that cause people to not bother asking questions on forums like this :mad:Yes, I usually tell it as I see it and respond where I see the need, but never are my comments ment to be taken personally.0

I didn't fully read the post, I apologise for that, but surely, if in doubt, then the way forward is to ask the parents which CD is acceptable and one the child didn't already have. It's impossible to list on a forum the 'Good/bad/acceptable. Everyone has a different view on that.
My niece doesn't have a single CD of any music, and her parents know as much about pop music as I do. What she listens to is what they find on Spotify, that is why they have suggested a CD as a present - to help introduce her to modern pop. They know that I will take their views on music to heart and find something suitable.
If they took as much time as I am to find something appropriate then they may as well buy it for her themselves, I'm offering my help searching as much as anything.
I've found many of the posts extremely helpful on here and have lots more choices now than I did before. I'm not asking for people's taste on music and what is "good" or "bad" but in my original post I gave what I thought was a good description of the kind of child she is and asked for people's personal recommendations.
Out of interest, I know she likes a couple of Lady Gaga songs - would one of her albums be inappropriate does anyone know?0 -
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Now-Thats-What-Call-Disney/dp/B005UNDSVK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1323109955&sr=8-2 Now that's what I call Disney is out now, with some big songs of dvd's she would have seen.
not very 'pop' though. As for Lady Gaga, I would let my daughter listen to her at 8, I'd have a quick look on the box and see if many songs are 'parental guidance recommended'Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
I listen to Lady Gaga in the car with my 5 year old with me, but not sure I'd give it as a gift to a child in case I upset someone! Without even going into the suggestive lyrics, one of the songs is called "government hooker".0

OK, Maggie, To make amends, I've been in touch with some of my family who have kids age 5-9. They tell me that the likes of (excuse spelling) Dustin Beeber, The Wanted and JLS are pretty much 'up there' for that age group. All popular and current with the younger ones. Good luck in your search. K.Yes, I usually tell it as I see it and respond where I see the need, but never are my comments ment to be taken personally.0 -
