It's a really bad idea to pour all these different chemicals down the drain to try and clear the same blockage. As it's not moving, all the chemicals you put down there are sitting there and mixing with everything else you add. The smoking when you added drain cleaner isn't a good sign! A lot of cleaning products, particularly the stronger things like drain cleaner are not compatible with each other.

For example, chlorine gas is unfortunately pretty easy to make from household bleach, you just have to add anything acidic, from loo cleaner to vinegar and the chlorine quickly comes out of solution. Had you tried an acid based loo cleaner like toilet duck after bleach you would have filled your bathroom with poisonous gas. I've generated chlorine gas in a fume hood in a lab with bleach and acid and was surprised how quickly it overwhelmed a high powered fume hood and it's not something I'd want to recreate in the bathroom.

    Hi all,

thanks for responses. I had undone the trap / u-bend to clear it and it wasn't blocked so am assuming the problem lies further down the pipework. Any further access is impossible as the pipes are built into the wall behind the sink, but I'll have a look at the power plumber and the Drain Snake so thanks for those tips, otherwise it's plumber-time...

    Cheers

  • Have a look at this site

    www.travena.co.uk

It's got lots of stuff to eat 'organic matter'........environmentally friendly

I have bought stuff for the septic tank from them. Very helpful if you ring them for advice and very quick delivery.

i dont think ill be bothering with those sort of prices.
itll be cheaper to shop at harrods.
    Get some gorm.
  • Cheaper than a plumber Ormus

And in my case cheaper than having the septic tank emptied and keeps the soakaway clear..................
  • why dont you try one of the plungers which jets water out? Think they are probably about a fiver at diy stores or maybe you will get lucky in a pound shop. you can also get some really strong acid drain cleaner from a plumbing merchants but Im not sure this is a good idea with all the other chemicals down there though.
