Are there different rules for different branches??

Options
Can anyone tell me if the outcome of a claim for bank charges depends at all which branch of your bank you send your claim to??? I was thinking that perhaps large city branches are seeing the bank charge claims a lot more often than the tiny branch that I am in. Do you think this makes a difference? Has anyone noticed a pattern at all?? Does anyone know if the claims are actually dealt with inside your branch or just sent on to head office?

Sorry to bombard you with questions!!

  • Hi minifan

No, there aren't rules for different branches as it's the bank's head office or litigation section that deals with all claims. All correspondance should be directed to the bank's head office. All of my claims were dealt with by head office and I've had all mine back :)

Damn it I have sent my letter listing the charges I am claiming to my branch as I read it on the guidance. Have doen the wrong thing? Do you think I should have sent it to the head office??
  • Yes, they should forward it to the relevant people. Don't worry, I think lots of people have done the same thing and received their statements as requested :D

Me again! No its the next letter I have sent to my branch with a total amount being requested. Do you think this is ok??
  • I wouldn't stress too much about it, it'll be forwarded to the right place. I would probably send any subsequent letters to the head office, though :D

Erm, to quote from the Contact Addresses Sticky Thread, you should send the letter requesting refund of your charges to your local branch:

"Once you've got your statements back. You need to write to your bank and ask them for the charges you are reclaiming (sending a list of the charges with the letter). These letters (including templates) are covered in step 3 and step 4 of Martins article.

For this section of your claim, you can send the letters to your local branch. Don't forget to send all your letters recorded/registered post. This way you have proof they received them."

  • Beate - I'm just going through personal experience here. I sent all my letters to head office as that's where they ultimately end up anyway. They're not dealt with at branch level.

  • Please follow the addresses and advice given in the address thread. The first post in that thread gives the addresses for all DATA requests and in most cases is not the banks head offices but a department dealing with that.

Your initial letter claiming your charges can be sent/handed in to your local branch as they will then forward to the correct department, which again may not be head office. If you get a reply giving you an address to reply to then use that one.

The final list of addresses is the registered offices of the banks which must be used for court correspondance.
