writing a letter to backdate my rent?? help please

Hi everyone, basically I moved into my permanent council flat 4/4/11. When I signed the contract, they also made me fill out and sign a change of address form for my housing benefit. Which I did and left everything with the housing officer.

Turned out they didnt process the application, and from april to october I had to pay full rent. Which I struggled to do! They were sending me letters saying they were going to take steps to evict me! I gave in proof of more than one occasion that I did the application on the 1/4/11 before I moved in.

But the whole time they were delaying doing my application. As a result of which I gave in another application the end of june. Which they delayed yet again!

Finally they sent me a decision saying I was not entitled! They assumed that I was still receiving tax credits for my son who was previously at private nursery, However I was not, as my son has been in school since last year!

Cut a long story short, they finally saw sense, however they backdated to the end of june which was when I did the second application.

I would like it backdated to the 4/4/11 which was when I applied, but Im unsure of how to word the letter I am going to send. Is there any help anyone could give me? Is there a template anywhere? Any help would be appreciated :)

just explain everything as you have above. you dont need to use any legal language, just write as you would a normal letter.

Its your responsibility to advise them of any change in your tax credits - did you ?

You said you have proof that you handed the form in on 1 April 2011. That's great - show them this proof and simply cover it with a letter explaining what it proves. No fancy words are required, simply: Dear Sir/Madam, I enclose a copy of the receipt for the form I handed in for my change of address on 1 April 2011. Please process my claim from 4 April 2011 when I moved into this address, Yours sincerely, N3wlife.
