It works on the same principle as central heating.
Hot water being pumped through a matrix with a fan pushing air through it.
It would appear that you might have a blockage on the water side.
Or it could be that the valve that controls the flow is not working. (Hot and cold control switch)I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -

Have you checked the coolant level? Those Rovers do have a tendency to blow head gaskets, especially if you allow the coolant level to drop! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
As above. If you have let the water drop so significantly that you have no flow through the heater matrix, unfortunately due to the meager water capacity in the K series, you probably have already done the damage. Great little cars with innovative engines that unfortunately do suffer HGF.
Good news is that the repair is so common, and with improved parts, there is bound to be a local Rover back-street expert who will be able to fix it for you. Bad news is that with Rovers demise, their unfortunate reputation and old-fashioned image, even when repaired they have very low values.0 -
checked the water & its fine , is it possible to be a thermostat or a fuse etc??0

The thermostat determines when the coolant flows though the radiator but it always flows though the heater matrix. As the heater blower is still working it won't be a fuse. Most likely the heater control valve that you operate from inside the car as failed or has stuck closed e.g. here - this is a common fault on some cars. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

If the engine temperature gauge is at normal running temperature its the heater control valve or a blocked up heater matrix. If it shows cold all the time or barely warm, its the thermostat.
Be aware though that at this time of year it can be a good 5 to 10 minutes before things start warming up.0
