Little Mai - Lidl/Aldi butter is £1.10 still, and if course that Mr T Lurpak is a very good price at £1 per pack. Not likely to be going this week,so may miss it :(.

Linda32 - don't dismiss the value range of cheese out of hand - the strong cheddar is very good imho, and in the 'old days' would have deff passed it over for more expensive, but tbh now I realise how stupid that was!

Lady Grey teabags £2.50 for big box - normally £4.39 but there are often BOGOFs etc.

Tinned tomatoes I don't have a ceiling for but I always buy Cirio ones on offer. And stand there thinking 'I remember being upset when they went up to 12p':o.

Dishwasher tablets - I refuse to pay anything for them. Got about 3 years worth at minus £1 a box thanks to Tesco DTD last year, same with soap powder & fabric con but they are nearly finished :(

Tinned toms - 34p. I really like the Morrison's ones, the juice is really thick. But will head straight to Farm Foods tomorrow!! I know I've got other limits too, can't remember them at the moment but they jump into my head as soon as I see mince at silly prices!!

And yes, I agree about the 50p a meal, that's my threshold too.

I don't exactly have a ceiling price, but I certainly compare costs per kg.

Take cheese this week in Sainsburys, best price per kg including the pre-packed and deli counter was £6.60per kg. Not including the basic range that is.
Which to my surprise, was Sainsburys So Organic cheese, which was nice.

Did the same for Bacon which was cheapest pre-packed.

Unfortunately, I can't bring myself to stock up when I see an offer for someting I buy, like Bacon - its nearly always 2 for £4.00 or about £2.40 for one, yet I can't bring myself to buy two packs at a time as I only need one a week, perhaps less.

I have found the same thing with other products too - branded demerara in MrT is cheaper than MrT own brand per 100g. MrT Value dried apricots are more expensive than branded per 100g but smaller pack so look cheaper!

I always look at the price per 100g - takes me ages to go shopping but I always get the best price!!!

i stock upon butter in waitrose when I get a 25% off code for ocado- there butter was £1.89 per 500g which with the 25% is reasonable but seems to be £2.19 now :( - it barely seems like 5 mins ago butter was 55p per 250g....

I buy expensive pasta as then we use less sauce as the pasta is nice in itself rather than a bland carrier - again I stock upon garofalo when its on offer in ocado and like to pay around £1 per 500g bag. If I've run out the aldi's premium brand is good at 69p a bag.

I aim for around £5kg for mince beef.

Prices seem to change so quickl at the mo I can't keep up though!

Costs per kg, ml, roll etc for me. Some stuff is on offer so frequently that if I can't find it cheap, I just wait a week!
Household and toiletries are one of those that are always on offer.I buy "posh" loo roll now because often it's the same price as cheap on offer but you get much more from the roll. 35p/roll is my upper limit and I will check offers online before I go and buy 20. £1/750ml spray cleaning liquids, 2 for £1 1L thick bleach, washing up liquid £1.50 750ml, laundry max 10p per wash.
£1 roll on deo, 75p nice bar of soap, when I do buy shampoo it's £2/400ml. I must admit that I do go for brands a lot with these items ie. never found anything as good as fairy or mitchim deo.
Meat and fish are major ones for me, I always cost up and will go without if I can't find the right price. £7/kg chicken breast, £4.50/kg steak or "premium" mince, £7/kg fresh salmon, 75p per tuna tin, 70p mackerel fillet tin.
Cheddar I'm £6/kg but only go for matured so it's a bit more, I'm picky and cba to leave it in my garden for a week to save 50p :p Got 700g of cathedral city for £3 today in Asda which was brilliant.
Pasta 80p/500g for me but only wholewheat or tricolor(it's just fun!!). I'm strict on butter too, luckily I can go without it for weeks until it's the right price.
I'm more relaxed with fruit and veg, I just get whatever's on a good offer but I do like cauliflower at max 80p big one or 60p small one.
Treats have to be on an exceptionally good offer. £3/kg nice looking stawberries, £8/kg posh dark choc.

I know it all seems very pedantic but I just have a good memory for numbers and working out costs takes me literally no time and keeps me sharp.

Thanks DH - so dried pasta is 1p per gr - easy to remember!

I think 1p per gram is expensive - Tesco have been selling it for 20p for 500g.

Last spring Tescos did a Double The Difference promo, comparing the prices with Asda. From memory, Finish Tablets £11 in Tesco, £5 in Asda, DTD = £12. Use the DTD voucher to buy one of the other 'pay you to take it away' products etc etc. I saw some Turners Rd wine yesterday and got all nostaligic, remembering when Mr T paid me 20p a glass to drink it :rotfl:. Also worked with electric toothbrushes (subsequently sold on ebay ;)), coffee, washing liquid, fabric conditioner. Fillet steak. Smoked salmon :D.

There were several threads at the time, it was v good fun outwitting Mr T who kept changing the T&C's :). Some of the photos of people's shopping looked like corner shops :rotfl:.

Ah, those were the days :j
