Hi
I want to make up a scottish gift hamper for a lovely scottish family who have become very good friends of ours since we moved to Oz.
Apart from iron bru and shortbread i cant think as to what to include, so im hoping you will all be able to help me.
Can you tell anything and everything scottish that i could include and also things that if youre scottish and moved away from home, what would you miss the most?
I may not beable to source everything but im going to give it a try
Many thanks in advance

Tbh, what I crave the most is "plain bread".As in a loaf of Mother's Pride Scottish Plain Bread - not an unbuttered slice of bread.
I also miss rowies/butteries/morning rolls (they go by many names).
The first two post responses have covered quite a lot of things. But to add to it (not actually stuff I personally miss though): hot smoked salmon, Highland Toffee, Moffat toffee, potato scones, black bun, pinhead oatmeal...
Can't think of any other specific "items" just now. How about writing up a few recipes for them, with suggestions for local ingredient substitutes?0 -
It would be nice to pop in one of the teatowels or maybe a shopping bag from this lady. Would be a reminder of quite a few traditional scottish things
I took a Tunnock's teacake bag to friends in Canada (along with a selection of the real things) and I've since been told half the expat community in Kitchener and Waterloo area are now sporting Gillian Kyle designs!0 -
