  • missed this first time round ...

ive dealt with similar situations before myself and while i would always attempt to contact the 'wrong' recipient of the money before debiting it back out, its not always possible. bank will undoubtedly (sp?) debit it soon and he risk of charges for going overdrawn is very real if that money has been put elsewhere

    any update northern bloke?

I think generally speaking, the onus is largely on the Bank to take corrective action on an incorrect credit into your account, provided you have the grounds to claim ignorance - saying that you never knew that such a credit had come in. For that, though, it is imperative that you do not move the money into a higher interest account, etc, as by doing so, you demonstrate that you know the credit having taken place.

However, the onus is not on the bank to inform you that they are taking corrective action to reverse the incorrect credit, and you stand to face the consequences in the form of insufficient funds, and overdrawn charges and interest, etc.

I've received a small payment of £10 into my account from 'Innova Fundraising'
I am either clueless or have a bad memory. Has anyone heard of them?
    Nothing on web search.

    Hi All

I posted yesterday that my 10 year old daughter found over £2000 in cash at the local post office. She is 10 years old and she handed it in without even thinking!!

Have you changed your gas or electricity supplier through the EnergyHelpline or Saveonyourbills website? This look like the £10 cashback from one of them.

Yes, you could be right there and of course I was only persuaded to get round to it by one of Martin's emails. Thanks. ;)

Well done Miss Mads 13, its lovely to hear of children who are honest isn't it considering we as adults sometimes seem to forget to be, no offence intended to anyone just speaking in general. Your daughter sounds like one in a million, well done you for your parenting skills :j

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Photogenic I've been Money Tipped!
I once found £80 cash on the floor of the bank, which someone had obviously dropped. I went back to the cashier who took my name and telephone number. About 4 weeks later I got a phone call from the bank, no-one had claimed the money so they credited it to my account as a thank you!

The only "found" money I keep is stuff I find in the street (no more than 50p ususally) but recently I had a mysterious credit of £156 into my bank account. I didn't know who it was from but the reference made my partner suspect it was from BT. After asking the bank to trace the deposit and them being unable to do so, I phoned BT customer service. The money was a deposit from them which they hadn't told me about. Apparently since we'd been in credit with them for so long they gave me my money back!

If you have deposits you don't recognise you should contact the bank, after all its not your money to keep/spend.
