Central heating problem

I have a potterton suprima boiler and am having problems with it - it is about 5 to 6 years old. It doesn't seems to turn off at all so my house gets very hot. I had an engineer out a couple of weeks ago and he was unable to find anything wrong.

The boiler is working ok - the water and radiators do get heat up. I am wondering if its the thermostat that is the problem even though when turning the thermostat I can hear the pump clicking on and off.

I am having to turn the boiler and hot water tank off every night when going to bed otherwise I would roasted overnight!

Any suggestions please?

Thanks.

    Hi

Sounds like the motorised valve is stuck open and not breaking the electrical connection to the boiler.
Depends on the make of valve as to what to do.

Well I would not get the same guy back if he could not find a simple fault like this must be useless !!!!!
If you are a DIYer fit a new motor on the valve yourself.....TURN THE ELECTRIC OFF FIRST...........
Cost of new valve £33.00 incl VAT very simple job

The plumber (different one!) thinks its the circuit board on the hot water tank and quoted me £188 plus VAT to replace it. is this reasonable. it seems a lot of money to me!

I have a Potterton boiler but it is not the boiler that is the problem. Potterton sent an engineer out and he said there was no problem with my boiler and the fault lies with the hot water tank system therefore he couldn't do anything about it.

The hot water tank was manufactured by Gledhill Water Storage Ltd

    Model. FE 120LH
    Working head 6m
    Capacity 120L
    Spec code. 55E
    Serial # 25457

It makes vibrating sounds all the time and does not turn off at all. I am having to switch the hot water tank off from time to time as the house gets too hot and the water is constantly heated.

Grateful for advice before I instruct the plumber to go ahead and carry out the job.

    Thanks.
