NHS help with wig costs?

I'm hoping someone can give me more accurate advice than the NHS on this one - I called their helpline and the girl openly said she had no idea and couldn't help.

Basically is it possible for oaps, or those on certain benifits (disability) to get help with wig costs - even when the need for a wig is nothing to do with the disability?
If so - does it work like glasses in that you can buy from any optician/wig shop then get the NHS fixed amount of the total cost?

Any help much appreciated on this

that site is england only - but as the best i could find & had looked there - and called the number listed - and got the girl who said she had no idea. I'm guessing there's just not a lot of money saving wig wearers out there, and the few there are all live in england?

Perhaps. Fill in an HC1 and see what happens.

Hi, do you suffer hairloss due to a medical reason? The reason i ask is you say its not related to your disability (I know lots of people can have hairloss unrelated to their primary illness/disability) but i remember someone on here asking as they wanted one for when they hadn't washed their hair/bad hair days and the reply was no the nhs do not help with that

thanks for that info - and no - i wouldn't expect the NHS to help with bad hair days - not when you can get shampoo at 23p a bottle ...i hope whoever it was that asked was told to go wash their hair!
