Sunday Times Wine Club....Couldn't Care Less

My wife was phoned by Sunday Times Wine Club 2 days ago re. a 12 bottle mixed case offer. She told the rep that she would need to discuss it with me (hubby) as money is a bit tight at the moment. 'No probs', said the rep, ' I'll phone you back tomorrow'.
Yep you've guessed it....no call back. I phoned Sunday Times Wine Club 3 times today, trying to find out what the bloody offer is....no-one appeared to know (or really be too bothered to find out) During call number 3, I was told that someone had attempted to call me twice today, which is strange as I have been in all day today and my phone has done nothing. I ended up saying that if someone didn't ring me within the hour, I would look elsewhere. (Anyone want to guess if they rung me?)
I have now ordered with Tesco, wine is turning up on Tuesday.

In conclusion - I cannot believe that Sunday Times Wine Club is not affected by the current recession, yet I am gobsmacked at their arrogance in not being motivated to try and find out what has gone wrong with the process & to actually be bothered to get an order from me. Another example of crap Customer Service.

Anyone else had a similar experience?

I've had similar experiences with loads of companies. No one does their jobs properly these days. You can never assume that something which is promised will actually be done. I always chase stuff up now if it is important to me and if it isn't then the company just lose the order.

I am sure it is a British disease. They seem to go out of their way not to sell you something. Even supermarket assistants suffer from it:

Conversation in Morrisons at the cigarette kiosk>

Assistant> you cant pay for your bread here, you have to go to the (one & only with a huge queue) checkout.

Me> but you are standing doing nothing?

Assistant> its not my fault (it never is) the till wont allow me to do it

Me> okay, I will leave my bread here. Who do I phone to complain to?

Assistant> I will do this just this once for you.

Why if she could have taken my money did she try not to? what a load of garbage about the checkout wouldnt allow her to do this? or only once? would the checkout recognise Tallyhoh if they tried it on a second time & self destruct?
Tallyhoh! Stopped Smoking October 2000. Saved £29382.50 so far!
