Money left in Probate

Hi my mother passed away 3 months ago now. While she was alive money was short and i used to look after the washing, ironing and housework in the latter days as her benifit money was running low and i was worried it may run out.
When i closed her bank account i discovered that she had an account that no one was aware of as it was set up paperless i assume as she never received any details'
In this account there was £16k which was upsetting at the time.
The bank LLoyds said as it was over £15k it must go to probate and a letter of administration had to be applied for.
I have received this and the bank gave me the money, now the Dept of Work and Pension are asking me how much money Mam had.
I assume i have to tell them the truth, could they reclaim the money ?
My mother was 90 years young when she passed away and received several benefits, would it depend on what benefits she was receiving ?
Thanks everyone in advance, just when i thought i had everything was paid for this comes along.

Im sorry you lost your mum.
All you can do is tell the truth and give them all the information you can.
They may want to reclaim some but thats life, I'm afraid.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0
