esure rip-off!

I shopped around for car insurance and Esure were very competitive. However they took my car details down wrongly so they're wrong on my policy schedule. I rang this afternoon to correct it - the car is automatic rather than manual, and they told me after "consulting the underwriters" that it would cost me another £40 on top of the £289 I've already paid. So a 14% increase, because I pointed out their mistake. I was gobsmacked, they wouldn't budge, even when I offered to split it with them.
Has anybody else been ripped off like this?
Does anyone have any ideas...if I cancel the policy now they'd charge me £25 anyway!

Did you arrange the policy on the phone?
Ask them to review the recording of the phone call which will show where the blame for the mistake lies.0 -
If its online then its almost certainly your error. If you bought over the phone then it could be either you or the company but the telephone recording should be able to verify that.
If the latter, I would ask them to listen to the recording and if it is their error and you want to go elsewhere then they should allow cancellation without penalty (although you should pay for time on cover).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
