Does anyone know the meaning of a phrase used on the new type registration certificate.
In section 3 special notes it says 1.declared new at first registration.
2.non-transferable registration mark
What does numbr 2 mean? I cant find any info. in the guidance notes or on government web site.I own another vehicle of the same age and that only says declared new at first registration.
Thanks for any info.anyone can give.

Is the car by any chance first registered prior to about 1966?
Many cars pre-1966 had registration plates in the format ABC123 or 123ABC. These would then often have been sold off as potentially valuable personal numbers. Initially these were replaced by "age related" plates in the format ABC123A (even though the cars were often pre-1963 so actually older than this format).
About 10 years ago the DVLA started issuing "age appropriate" marks for cars that were pre-1963, i.e., if the original plate was ABC123, then became ABC123A, the owner could apply for the issue of a new plate in the format XYZ123. However, there was obviously a possibility that this new plate would also be a valuable "personal number" then it would theoretically be possible for the owner of an old car to have an endless revenue stream of registrations. Therefore, these replacement, age-appropriate registrations were made non-transferrable and it is likely that you have one of these.Debt at highest: September 2003 - £26,350

Isn't this to stop you retaining a number plate that might be relevant to you and thus conferring cherished number plate status on an ordinary plate?0

Sounds interesting, though there is nothing special about the reg and as i said another car i own does not have it on its log book.Perhaps someone could confirm that they have it on theirs too!!Otherwise its a call to dvla, not usually very helpful!!Bossyboots wrote:Isn't this to stop you retaining a number plate that might be relevant to you and thus conferring cherished number plate status on an ordinary plate?

Update --contacted the dvla, waste of time as i thought, all they could suggest was that i write to the cherished numbers section as it could be one of the numbers that cant be transfered to stop people making money by selling them.
I cant imagine a number as ordinary as it is could be worth anything,There is NOTHING unusual about it.I can only ask again has anyone got this on their v5c?

Got my hubby's v5c in front of me. No, it doesn't have it on there. I'm trying to find mine now.
I can only assume that there is something about your registration number that might make it sought after.0 -
Another update ,if anyone reads this thread again,i dont seem to be getting much interest!!
Went on the reg.nos for sale on dvla site and found several ending with the same letters as mine which are ZKY,some have similar prefix numbers, some dont, all are on sale for between £400 and £800,seems daft to me cant think what ZKY could mean to a prospective buyer.Any way this is probably why i can not transfer it,not that i would do anyway!!
