edf energy
changed to edf energy monthly d/d payment, advisor worked out that it should be £18.99for elect. bit more than previous supplier but ok .
I would have preferred it to be £25 as I am pensioner and would rather slightly overpay and have refund later or set against gas a/c.
have just worke out first month with them and useage was high at £26 due helping daughter do washing and drying while waiting for repairs on her machines.
now had email from edf that from jan 2012 d/d will be
Your new payment is based on:
£37.00 for your estimated future monthly
electricity usage
never had trouble like this withprevious supplier [ hydro ]
should I state that I want d/d reduced or change back to hydro...
I do not know how much penalty it will cost if they refuse to lower d/d.
advice appreciated from anyone with similar experience.

You can request the D/D be lowered, but as you've already stated you'd prefer to overpay, so personally if you can afford it, I'd leave it.
You can request a refund at any time of the money on credit.0 -
Zee, I found myself in a similar predicament with EDF; I just contacted them and told them that I wanted the DD reduced to what they said it would be when I originally started with them back in about July of this year.
If I were you, I would contact them and tell them that there's no way you can afford the £37 per month, and would like them to set it at £25, and point out that this is more than the original amount set by them anyway. The worst they can do is say no, but based on my experience with them, I think it's highly unlikely.
I like to know where I am with gas and electricity, so I read my meters at the end of every month. For the last three months, they have wanted to put my DD up from the original £97 to first £113, then £115 and this last time £119. Each time, I contacted them, and I am still paying £97 per month.
Hope this helps.0 -

*Probably* the original calculation was manually calculated over 12 months but the revised calculation has been calculated using winter consumption to an earlier spring "annual review" date.
Phone up and ask for the payment to be restored to the amount you want on the grounds you have been misled by the original adviser. Complain formally (about the original advice) if you are not satisfied with the outcome of the call.
There are many threads in the Forum about this issue.

thanks for advice, this is first full month with them , sent email requesting reduction to £25 if the say ok will stay with them ,reading various write-ups seems standard that they raise d/d when newbee joins.0
