Countrywide Lettings

Hi,
We have lived in rented accomodation for the last 4 years. A few months ago we received a letter informing us, that our landlord would like to offer us another 12 months at the same rent.
We were hoping to stay here another 12 months, so we sent a cheque for around £50 (which has been banked) and signed a form to confirm our intentions.
On previous years, we have received a new contract to sign. I was under the impression countrywide charged £50 to draw up the new contract, however we have not received anything to date. My OH has contacted Countrywide and told them that we still haven't received a new contract, to which they said we wouldn't receive one because it is just a renewal.
My OH is happy to accept this, but I'm worried about where we stand legally and also on edge at the possibility of being kicked out at a moments notice.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

I would just ask Countrywide to confirm in writing that your tenancy has been renewed
